Hometown Hero 10/31/2008: Richard Bennick

Richard Bennick
New York Richard has not only served the city of New York as a police officer for over 11 years, first as a transit cop for the NY Transit Authority and currently as part of the NYC highway patrol unit, but also, he has served his community and its youth as a mentor and friend. As a resident in a struggling neighborhood in Far Rockaway, Richard has opened his home and heart to many of the underprivileged children living in the area. In particular, he has taken a particular interest in the helping the young males in his neighborhood and has mentored many of them in efforts to help them realize their future potential as upstanding adults.

Although Richard was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in 2005 for almost a year, his spirit and lasting impact was still felt by those around him. Richard is a hands-on father, an incredible husband, a decorated soldier and officer, and a real Hometown Hero.
