Two injured in small plane crash

PITTSTOWN, N.J. New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones said the plane crashed in the yard of a home at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.

It had taken off from Sky Manor Airport in Hunterdon County, about 30 miles northwest of Trenton. The crash site is about 200 yards from the airport runway.

Preliminary reports indicate there may have been an engine fire before the crash, Jones said.

One of the people aboard the plane was flown to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., with serious injuries, according to Quakertown Fire Chief Brad Patkochis. The other was taken to Hunterdon Medical Center. Their names were not immediately available.

No one on the ground was injured.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said the plane was a single-engine Piper PA-28.
