"Well, I saw a lot of cars, new cars, and a lot of different cars," said neighor Christian Lopez.
After being contacted about the activity, Rye Brook police began an investigation. What they learned was that the couple was already part of a case in the neighboring town of Harrison.
"The Harrison investigation brought up the Craigslist ad and from there we just did our own leg work," said Rye Brook Police Chief Gregory Austin.
Police say one the couple's two Craigslist pages touts Grome as a hot non pro college girl trying to make extra tuition money. It featured several risqué pictures of her and claimed that she would be hosting until 2pm.
"We sent in an undercover officer into the house to make contact. They had an appointment. The officer went into the condo and made the arrest," continued Austin.
23 year old Rachel Grome and 45-year old Richard Salvatore are now facing prostitution charges. Police believe the husband and wife began the scheme because they'd fallen on hard times.
"There was no job on the books for so they had to get their income somehow," said Austin.
He believes they chose prostitution to make ends meet and support themselves.
Neighbors of the couple are shocked and horrified.
"I never had an idea something like that was going on over there," said Lopez. "This used to be a quite area, a quiet street. It's kind of sad it's coming down to that. I'm just hoping that it gets better," said neighbor Ben Thomas.
On Thursday, there were apparent signs that Rachel Grome and Richard Salvatore had moved out of their Rye Brook townhouse. Numerous trash bags and old moving boxes piled up here in the driveway.
