Child charged in slide tampering

PLEASANT VALLEY The incident happened in Pleasant Valley on March 24.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office reports the slide was made to deliberately cause injury to children using it, and that after an extensive investigation, the 11-year-old suspect was identified and arrested.

Sean Yambo slid down the slide and was cut by a sharp object (seen above). He received a laceration which required 30 stitches to close.

The investigation revealed that the Yambo had been cut by a razor blade that had been inserted into the slide through a hole created from underneath the slide, so that just the edge of the blade stuck up into the slide and would cut anyone sliding down. The act appeared to be deliberate and done for no other reason than to cause injury.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, his identity has not been released.

Authorities urge parents and guardians to thoroughly check playground equipment before allowing children to use it.
