Teen killed in possible racing accident

BRENTWOOD, N.Y.

Police spent much of the afternoon reconstructing the scene of the crash.

The driver of the red Acura lost control striking a tree and a huge rock on Tuesday around noon.

The car landed in the parking lot of the deli on Crooked Hill Road.

Police say two brothers were in the car. Suffolk County Police say 16-year-old Benjamin Claudio was the driver. His brother, 15-year-old Peter Claudio, died from his injuries at a local hospital. The older brother was airlifted to a nearby trauma center and was listed in critical condition.

Gabrielle Risien was walking across the four-lane roadway just before noon. She says the red Acura and another car appeared to be racing.

The cars were speeding northbound, she said, when they were forced to stop for traffic

Risien said the driver of one of the cars kept going, but the driver of the Acura was not as fortunate. He struck two parked cars before coming to a complete stop.

The boys' mother arrived at the scene a short time after the accident.

"She was hysterical crying. She just wanted to hold her babies. I feel for her," Risien said.
