Four robbers shot, two killed, by store owner

HARLEM Investigators said the four suspects, one armed with a Glock 9MM, entered a restaurant supply store at 523 West 125 Street around 3:10 Thursday afternoon and announced a robbery.

They began pistol whipping an employee. That's when the owner of the store entered the room with a 12-gauge shotgun. He shot all four suspects.

Police arrived on the scene a short time later and found two of the men on the ground. One was dead. The other was taken to the hospital where he died.

Investigators searched the area for the other two suspects. Both were found in the area. Both had gunshot wounds. They were transported to St. Luke's Hospital where they are listed in stable condition.

Police said three of the suspects were 21 years old. The age of the fourth was not known. No names have been released.

All this happened right next to a day care center, where teachers had to take children to their parents through police tape.

"No matter where you live, where you go, things happen unexpectedly," one parent said.

Police said charges were pending against the suspects as their investigation continued.
