Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief. He is the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction - stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and has cost him everything he has ever loved.
Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back, but only if he can accomplish the impossible -- inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse. Their task is not to steal an idea, but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for a dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move.
It is an enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.
DiCaprio is excellent in the role of thief. Stealing thoughts and ideas from
anyone his team can capture and put to sleep is his specialty. When he is tasked
with depositing an idea, he gladly takes the job with the understanding that the
payoff will come when he's no longer considered a fugitive and be allowed to
return home to his children.
Just trying to understand the concept of Inception isn't easy. The idea is as
deep as when we were first introduced to "The Matrix" or even "The Cell" with
Jennifer Lopez.
I will say this: It is important to pay close attention throughout the 2.5 hours or you may get lost.
I was thoroughly interested with the great effects, but the premise was just as intriguing because it's so new to me. It's a new spin on espionage, if you will, that not only defies belief, but, in some cases, gravity. In the world of dreams, 5 minutes is an hour. Think of what you can accomplish in an hour of waking time if only 5 minutes has actually passed.
The deeper you go into the different layers of sleep, the more time you have to work with. But going too deep may get you lost forever.
In one scene, the driver of a van carrying Cobb's team is being shot at by multiple assailants during a high-speed chase. Each time the van swerves, the dream world is affected. Sometimes the effect is small tremors, while at other times, the entire universe seems to lean to one side.
This one is a must-see just because of its innovation.
