The man is about 25 years old, about 5-foot-8 and weighing 190 pounds with short black hair.
Police say that he followed a woman into a building on Amsterdam Avenue around 3:40 a.m. Sunday.
He threw the woman to the ground and tried to sexually assault her.
When that failed, he ran from the building, heading south on Amsterdam.
