Car crashes into house after driver passes out

PEQUANNOCK, New Jersey

The Santiago family woke up to a 2007 Chevy Impala, that flipped on it's side and a ripped a huge hole in a downstairs bedroom.

Surveillance video shows the car speeding through a the parking lot, just seconds before it landed into their Madison Street home in Pequannock, New Jersey.

"The car looked pretty bad. The car was smashed up on the side of the house. It's almost like somebody picked up a car by its rooftop and stuck it inside of the house," said Carlos Santiago.

Police say a 66-year-old man was driving south on route 23, when he may have had a massive heart attack.

He was first spotted at Alexander Avenue driving slowly and slumped over the wheel.

Police say just past the intersection, he side-swiped a car and hit the center concrete barrier. He accelerated, drove into the Psychic Reader parking lot, curved in front of the bagel shop, then between a restaurant, and then-into the back parking lot of the shopping center.

The car then crossed over Madison Street, went airborne, and flipped onto the passenger side of the car and into the house.

That's about 1,500 feet, without hitting anyone. Somehow, it seems his fading spirit, wanted spared major destruction along his path.

"It's a blessing, because usually they have delivery trucks delivering to the restaurant there," adds Santiago.

No other injuries were reported.
