1 million turn out for Village Halloween parade

GREENWICH VILLAGE

About 50,000 participants turned out, dressed up as all sorts of people and things. The parade combined creative costumes, vibrant music and an infectious energy.

The best costumes, of course, were the most creative.

More than one million spectators showed up to watch the nation's largest Halloween celebration, despite the chilly weather.

"It is the best Halloween parade in the world," New Jersey resident Jay Czerkies said. "You have to come out and experience it."

The parade route was six blocks shorter this year, and there were noticibly fewer floats.
