CDC: Asthma rates alarmingly on the rise

WASHINGTON

The CDC said that about 25 million Americans had asthma in 2009. That's 8 percent of the population and represents an increase of more than four million people since 2001.

About 200 children and 3,300 adults died from asthma in 2007.

Non-Hispanic black children have the highest rate, with about 17 percent having asthma.
