Police say the car struck a guardrail and then a utility pole on Scotchtown Collabar Road.
The pole snapped and landed on top of the car trapping two people inside for hours.
Rescue crews used a crane to lift the pole off of the car.
The driver was killed.
One passenger was seriously injured, another passenger escaped unharmed.
