Woman's body found in the Bronx River

THE BRONX

It happened in the Wakefield section and police do suspect foul play.

The body of the young woman was carried from the bank of the Bronx River as a group of onlookers wondered how she died and who she is.

"That's what we really want to know, do we know her? They're not saying anything now but she could be one of our next door neighbors or something but we don't know," local resident Justina Piggott said.

Eyewitnesses say there was a trail of blood in Bronx Park that led a passerby to her body around 9 a.m. Saturday.

The gruesome scene near the corner of Bronx Blvd. and 225th Street is now roped off.

A lush, green park where parents bring their children to play is now a crime scene.

"It's just a sad thing to see in a park like this. This park is really not all that bad," resident Robert Barnes said.

As police comb the area for evidence the questions linger: was this a vicious murder and if so where is the killer?

"Get him and get him quick because you don't want this to go on in your neighborhood, you don't want this to happen," Barnes said.
