Mistaken identity lands man in Rikers

NEW YORK

On April 10 Hanoi Sanchez was returning from the Dominican Republic when immigration stopped him at JFK Airport. Seems a different Hanoy Sanchez was wanted for domestic violence, so they arrested this Hanoi Sanchez

Both men have the same name, but different spellings. They were born in the same year, on the same date, but in different months.

The man who is wanted lives in Paterson. The innocent Sanchez lives in Elizabeth. His wife fought for a week to free her husband and father of five.

The victims claim 5 different agencies should have spotted the mistake, from immigration officials to Port Authority Police , the NYPD at Central Booking, the Department of Corrections and the Queens District Attorney's Office.

Beyond the humiliation of spending a week behind bars, Sanchez lost a week of work and was suspended for 3 days as punishment. Now, he is now suing for a million dollars.
