"It's amazing how many places there are on the island to kayak, so I started trying to go to all the different places," he said.
And now he's come out with "Paddling Long Island and New York City" covering Montauk to Manhasset to Manhattan.
"There are over 400 miles of coastline. Beautiful spots," Stiegelmaier said.
Beauty and history can be found in some spots. For instance, Cold Spring Harbor is where, off in the hills, you can see Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. That's where the structure of DNA was discovered.
