Brazen electronics heist at Bronx high school

BRONX

The students were upset because many of them had gotten their cell phones and iPods stolen. It all started with a system-wide rule that says students can't bring electronic devices into school anymore.

Columbus has at least three trucks that will store a student's phone for the day for a buck each. On Tuesday, one of the trucks was robbed at gunpoint. The two workers tied up and scores of phones were stolen. When students found out, they rushed outside.

On Tuesday, Xavier Nagry snuck his phone into school.

"I got lucky, it's safer in my possession," said Nagry.

Some neighbors say an armed robbery in broad daylight is unlikely on busy Astor Avenue.

It is not clear if the owners of the truck will reimburse students for their loss, but so far, students are not optimistic.
