Parts of Liberty State Park to reopen after Sandy

JERSEY CITY, N.J. Officials say cleanup efforts on one-half of the scenic Liberty Walk, which offers views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline, are complete.

One of two main entrances to the park will also reopen along with some trails and open fields.

It is estimated that the remainder of the River Walkway will be open by the spring.

Portions were damaged when the storm surge flooded and damaged the park during the Oct. 29 storm.

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island remain closed. The Statue of Liberty itself received little or no damage from Sandy.
