The Staten Islanders got a chance to see their future temporary homes as organizers offer them a place to live while they try and get their lives back on track.
It was a real estate open house unlike any other.
A dozen families were checking out the modular units they will be living in for the next year.
These are displaced New Yorkers who lost everything to Hurricane Sandy.
After weeks of living in shelters or staying with family, they are days away from having a place to call home.
Most of the families are from Staten Island. The units are being moved onto the grounds of faith church in New Milford, Connecticut.
The idea was the brainchild of the pastor and the head of the tunnel to towers foundation, both men are originally from the hard hit borough.
The two bedroom homes are being custom made in Virginia.
The foundation is spending about a million dollars for 20 units.
But, there's has been an outpouring of support: sewer lines and electricity are being are being hooked up for free.
