4 pedestrians struck in Bay Ridge, 1 critical

BAY RIDGE

"It was chaos, it was people running," said Bill Burgos, a witness.

Witnesses still can't believe what they saw just hours after ringing in the New Year.

A 34-year-old driver is accused of plowing into four people and smashing four parked cars.

Witnesses say the mêlée started at 93 Lounge when a fight spilled onto 93rd Street at Third Avenue, just after 3:30 Tuesday morning.

"The driver in the white car zooms up the block and starts hitting people. He puts the car in reverse comes back and slams into two other people and hits cars. People are screaming trying to stop him," said Tameka Council, a witness.

Paramedics rushed a 29-year-old man in critical condition to Lutheran Medical Center.

Another man and two women all in their 20's are in stable condition.

As blood ran down his face, police hauled the driver away in handcuffs for allegedly driving under the influence.

"He was just yelling, 'I didn't see anyone. I didn't see anyone.' He was oblivious. He was drunk," Council said.

Residents say the club has been a problem for years, but their numerous complaints have gone unheard.

"That club has been a problem for years. Alcohol unfortunately, that's what plays a role in these situations. It's sad," said Bill Burgos, a witness, "It's very sad. Not a way to start the New Year."
