Chris Christie kicks off Route 35 reconstruction in Seaside

SEASIDE PARK

Gov. Chris Christie and Department of Transportation Commissioner James Simpson say new drainage pumps designed to handle larger amounts of storm water will be installed along Route 35.

Simpson and Christie were on hand Tuesday for the projects' groundbreaking in Seaside Park.

The new drains are part of a two-year, $265 million project that will reconstruct a 12 1/2 mile stretch of Route 35 that was badly damaged by Sandy.

Simpson said the northern most part of the project from Mantoloking to Bay Head is set to be complete by summer 2014. The remaining 9 miles from Brick to Berkeley is scheduled to be completed in early summer 2015.
