Amtrak service resumes between Philadelphia and Washington DC

NEW YORK

Passengers can expect extensive delays between Philadelphia and Washington, Amtrak said.

Amtrak crews continue to work on repairs to the overhead electrical system damaged along the Northeast Corridor near Elkton, Md.

The damage meant that Acela Express, Northeast Regional and other services were not operating for several hours between the two cities.

Passengers with travel plans this afternoon or tonight are encouraged to check train status on Amtrak.com and/or the Amtrak mobile app.

A cause of the disruption has yet to be determined and is under investigation.

Crews will continue working through the night to restore full service in time for the morning rush hour on Thursday.
