It was a bombshell because Sharpton said that Giuliani hadn't met with any of the City's big-name black leaders. And it happened at a time in Giuliani's second term when his police department's relationship with the African American community had hit a new low, thanks mostly to a high-profile and high-volume-of-ammo deadly shooting (remember Springsteen's "American Skin" with its "41 shots"?) and a case of police abuse in the back of a precinct involving a plumber's plunger.
The Mayor's Deputy was Joe Lhota, who is now the Republican nominee for Mayor. And Mr. Lhota clearly is trying to avoid the kind of snub his former boss made. Tonight, Lhota and Sharpton are breaking bread, politically speaking, with Lhota venturing to Harlem to meet at Sharpton's headquarters.

Also at 11, the folks who started Occupy Wall Street tonight are celebrating their second anniversary. The movement didn't last, but it did cement the issue of income inequality into the body politic, and it coin a phrase that resonates with millions: The 1%.
Some protestors – a couple hundred – have been visible all day, and they're marching tonight where it all started, in Lower Manhattan.
