An elderly woman who was reported missing last week has been found dead in a Long Island nature preserve.

Family members say 82-year-old Jean Taber suffered from dementia.

She was last seen walking her dog last week.

Her body was found Sunday afternoon deep in the rugged terrain of the David A. Sarnoff Preserve in the Pine Barrens, several miles from her home in Riverside.

The dog, a white cocker spaniel, was found alive by her side and was taken to a veterinarian for examination.
