BAY SHORE, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police in Suffolk County arrested a Bay Shore man for leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian.

Saquan Johnson, 24, of Bay Shore, was charged with leaving the scene of an incident. He is scheduled for arraignment in Central Islip Wednesday.

Johnson is suspected of hitting a 30-year-old Elvin Ponce, of Brentwood, in Bay Shore early Saturday morning with his car.

Neighbors heard the commotion. "I walked outside and I saw the evidence the police and the body," said Lizette Bustamante, a neighbor.

Police said Johnson was traveling east on Redington Street, east of Brook Avenue when the hit-and-run happened.

The driver took off in a dark, four-door sedan with possible front-end damage. And while a few of the buildings and homes in the area have surveillance video cameras, it appears many of them were not working.

There is a light just past the area where the hit-and-run took place.
