NEW YORK -- Government work is a family affair for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
His two teenage children both started month-long unpaid internships in city government on Thursday.
His daughter Chiara, a college student, will work with the Office to Combat Domestic Violence.
And his son Dante, a rising senior in high school, will be an intern in the first deputy mayor's office.
De Blasio's wife, Chirlane McCray, announced the appointments on her blog.
McCray also works in an unpaid position for the city. She heads the Mayor's Fund, which raises money from private companies to further the mayor's agenda.
She is also her husband's closest adviser.
Both children played starring roles in their father's successful mayoral campaign a year ago, appearing on the stump and in commercials.
