New boxer briefs promise to block cellphone radiation
A new product for men aims to protect the children they haven't even had yet.
A New York company called Belly Armor begins selling its RadiaShield Men's Boxer Briefs today. The hi-tech underwear promises to protect men's reproductive organs from harmful cellphone radiation. Belly Armor's line of men's briefs are made with a thin layer of silver fabric in the crotch area to shield sperm from radiation. The company claims the fabric has similar shielding properties to a 1/4-inch thick sheet of aluminum, with a 99.9 percent effectiveness rate.
The company's first products were maternity tops and baby blankets which promised pregnant women that their unborn child would be protected from everyday radiation and harmful rays emitted by laptops and phones.
So why the need for radiation blocking boxers? Company executives cited a 2008 clinic study that claimed the "use of cell phones decrease the semen quality in men by decreasing the sperm count, motility, viability, and normal morphology." Belly Armor insists men haven't been asking for protection down there because they didn't know they needed it to begin with.
Other health studies on low levels of radiation from mobile devices have been inconclusive, but if you think radiation is coming between you and your Calvin's, then the $49 RadiaShield boxers may be for you.
