Police: Man fatally shot in Bridgeport was likely not intended target

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (WABC) -- Police say a Connecticut man shot to death while working on his car was probably not the intended target.

Cadell Moore was killed around 11 a.m. Thursday outside his Bridgeport home. Police say the 34-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

A day later, a sidewalk memorial on Sixth Street continued to grow as a community remembered a man at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Moore was a part-time mechanic who had just completed training and gotten his license to drive trucks.

"He was about to start driving 18-wheelers," cousin Rashaad Spain said. "It was his day off from his other job, part time mechanic. He's a real good kid. It hurts, because the good dies young."

Moore was on the block helping a relative with his car when shots were fired at the house. Police say the mid-morning shooting was the result of a gang feud over a drug deal.

Police say the community, so outraged by the killing, has cooperated, and investigators know who they're looking for.

"There's a lot of good people who live here and they don't want to see anything like that," Bridgeport Police Chief A.J. Perez said. "That man did not deserve to lose his life in that way. So they are cooperating, and that's why we know who did this."

The chief guaranteed a quick arrest in the case.

The incident took place not far from a church where Moore's mother is a member. William McCullough is the pastor.

"It was devastating," he said. "It was too close to home. Loved ones that we care about, extended family members, church members."

On the other end of the block is a police substation, which the department is looking to fully restaff.

"We're going to try some new programs and have officers spending particular times here," Bridgeport police Captain Roderick Porter said.
