The start of the 37th annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

PHILADELPHIA -- Runners have crossed the finish line at the 37th annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run in Philadelphia.

The first male finisher was 24-year-old Abebe Mekuria of New York, NY who finished with a time of 48:43 and a pace of 4:52/mi.

The first female finisher was 27-year-old Crystal Burnick of Skippack, Pa. who finished with a time of 57:05 and a pace of 5:42/mi.

The first elite runner crosses the finish line.

Up to 40,000 runners were expected to run, shutting down 10 miles of the major roadway.

Chopper 6 over the start of the Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

The run started at the Central High School Athletic Field at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue. The race finishes inside the Philadelphia Navy Yard at the end of Broad Street in South Philadelphia.

A fleet of city tow trucks were on Broad Street early Sunday morning, clearing vehicles in order to make the route ready the run.

Philadelphia police had warned cars parked on Broad Street must be moved by midnight or risk being towed.
