EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police are searching for the attacker who raped a 60-year-old woman in Brooklyn Wednesday morning.

At about 6 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call for a woman sexually assaulted in the vicinity of 463 Berriman Street in East New York.

The victim told police that the suspect grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth and dragged her into the boiler room of the location where he repeatedly punched her in the face and raped her.

In exclusive video seen only on Eyewitness News, police are seen responding to the brutal, vicious rape, which unfolded in a dark basement of the building on Berriman Street.

The victim's friend is seen. Sources tell Eyewitness News the women are part of a group which collects recyclables on the block.

Sources say the victim had gotten separated from her friend. Clearly upset after the attack, the victim is seen back with her friend, both pointing toward the building where the attack unfolded.

The suspect, of unknown age, was described as black and wearing dark colored maintenance type clothing, and fled to parts unknown.

The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. The investigation is being conducted by the Brooklyn Special Victims Squad.

People who live near the building say the super has tried many times to secure the basement but people who do not live there keep breaking in.
