2 dead, 9 injured in Burlington County school bus crash

SOUTHAMPTON TWP., N.J. -- Two people were killed and nine others, including students, were injured in an accident involving a school bus and a car in Burlington County, New Jersey.

It happened around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pemberton and Ridge roads in Southampton Township.

Police say a Volkswagen Passat collided with the school bus carrying the Lenape Valley High School swim team, two coaches, and the bus driver.

According to a witness, the Passat was traveling at high rate of speed and attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone when it crashed into the bus.

Two men inside the Passat were pronounced dead at the scene.

Nine people on the bus, eight students and one adult, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

They were transported to Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly.

Others on the bus who were not injured were transported to the township building to be picked up by their parents.

The accident remains under investigation.
