Philadelphia man killed after Coney Island fight ends in gunfire
NJ Burkett reports from Brooklyn, where police are investigating Monday's incident.

CONEY ISLAND (WABC) -- A street fight in Brooklyn erupted into gunfire early Monday, leaving a Philadelphia man fatally shot.

The shooting happened just after midnight at the corner of Neptune and Bayview Avenues in Coney Island.

Police arrived to find 51-year-old Eric Rivera lying in the street with a gunshot wound in the head. He was later pronounced dead.

Rivera was visiting family in Brooklyn and was attending a large barbecue at Kaiser Park at the time.

Authorities say at least a dozen people were involved in the fight when the gunfire broke out near a housing project, and police are hoping surveillance video will provide clues.

The victim may have been trying to break up a dispute between two women and was standing on the street next to the park when shots rang out.

Detectives are looking for at least one gunman, possibly several people, who fled the scene.
