HARTFORD, Conn. -- Beaches at four Connecticut state parks are closed to swimming because of high bacteria counts.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced that four beaches - two along the shoreline and two inland - were closed Tuesday following water quality testing. New test samples were taken and the results are expected Wednesday.

The DEEP said the beaches can reopen if the test results show bacteria levels receded.

The beaches include Sherwood Island in Westport, Silver Sands in Milford, Indian Well in Shelton and Kettletown in Southbury.
