VERNON, Conn. -- Connecticut State Police say they arrested a North Carolina man and a teenage girl after discovering what appeared to be a "mobile meth lab."

Troopers found a van Thursday in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Vernon, about 18 miles northeast of Hartford. Police were responding to a report that a man and 17-year-old girl had not arrived at their destination.

Authorities say they discovered chemicals commonly used to make methamphetamine in the van. Police lodged drug charges against 24-year-old Shang Clevenger of Salisbury, North Carolina, and the girl, who wasn't identified because of her age.

Clevenger and the girl are detained. It's not clear if they have lawyers who could respond to the allegations.
