NEW YORK (WABC) -- A Port Authority police officer who survived the World Trade Center collapse is calling it a career Thursday.

Lieutenant David Lim is retiring after 34 years of dedicated service with the PAPD, where he most recently served as a member of the elite K-9 unit patrolling LaGuardia Airport.

On 9/11, Lim was on duty in the North Tower when it collapsed at 10:28 a.m. in 11 seconds, killing all civilians still alive on upper floors, an undetermined number below and scores of first responders.

Incredibly, Lim was one of only 16 people who escaped.

The other survivors included 12 firefighters and three civilians who were descending Stairwell B of the North Tower.

Lim's canine partner, Sirius, also perished in the collapse.

He will take part in the final roll call and a ceremonial walk-out at LaGuardia on Thursday afternoon.
