A vacant building was demolished Thursday morning, closing West 34th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues.

The street later reopened to pedestrians and cars.

The roof of the vacant building, which used to be a store, caved in the last few days.

A sidewalk shed was set up while the contractor determined when to bring the building down.

The decision was made to demolish the building between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday.
