A dog had to be rescued from a retention pond after falling through ice in Wilmington, Delaware Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 9:00 a.m. near 10th and Franklin Streets at the Cool Springs Reservoir in Wilmington.

Early reports say the owner was walking his dog when the dog ran on to the ice and fell through.

The owner tried to rescue the dog, but couldn't and needed help.

Firefighters then responded to the scene and went out on a banana boat.

The dog kept swimming away and finally, one firefighter had to jump in the water to save the dog.
