Man flips SUV in Fort Lee, New Jersey after police chase

FORT LEE, N.J. (WABC) -- A driver being pursued by police flipped a stolen SUV in Fort Lee, was thrown from the vehicle and apparently fled.

Investigators said around 3:30 a.m. Friday, the suspect was driving the wrong way on Center Avenue in Fort Lee. The driver refused to stop when police attempted to pull him over, and after a short pursuit, lost control of the Chevrolet Suburban on Anderson Avenue.

The SUV flipped, crashed and caught fire. The suspect may have been ejected from the vehicle. By the time the officer got to the car, the suspect had fled.

The Essex County Prosecutors Office is investigating.

Police said the suspect is likely injured, and asked anyone with information to call Fort Lee detectives at (201) 592-3510.
