Guttenberg, NJ, man blows hand off in fireworks accident

GUTTENBERG, New Jersey (WABC) -- A man blew off a hand Thursday night in an apparent fireworks accident in his Guttenberg apartment.

Police were called to a man's apartment at 68th Street and Kennedy Boulevard just after 7 p.m.

According to the Guttenberg Police Department, he had blown his hand off. He was hospitalized.

A bomb squad from Jersey City investigated and cleared the apartment. It appears to be an accident, police said; a firework accidentally was lit and went off.

The investigation is continuing.

The incident is not terror-related and does not appear to involve any other criminality.

The victim was taken to a trauma unit at a local hospital.
