QUEENS (WABC) -- Police in Queens rescued two men Saturday night after their jet ski ran out of gas and became caught in a strong current.

Authorities said officers spotted the men in the water when they responded to a 911 call near Beach 9 Street and Seagirt Boulevard. One man was reportedly holding onto the jet ski while the other was adrift in a current wearing a loose life vest that did not properly keep him afloat.

Officers Matthew Carson and Christopher Carlino entered the water and retrieved the jet skiers, police said.

Carson said it was his "gut instinct" go into the water and prevent the men from drowning.

The victims, ages 21 and 28, were exhausted but uninjured.
