CAUSES

- Most people become infected when they inhale water containing legionella bacteria

- While it is possible to contract Legionnaires' from home plumbing, most outbreaks occur in large complexes

- When contaminated liquids accidentally enter your lungs

- Using contaminated potting soil

RISK FACTORS

-People in senior centers or homeless shelters

-People with various other medical problems such as chronic lung disease or a weakened immune system

-Smokers

-People who are 50 years of age or older
