Man accused of following woman onto subway at Union Square, lewd act

LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A man has been charged with a sex crime, accused of rubbing himself against a woman on the subway Friday morning.

According to police, Dawud McKelvin, 35, was first spotted by plainclothes officers acting suspiciously behind a woman on the northbound No. 6 subway on the Union Square station platform just after 8:30 a.m.

A Level 2 sex offender, he followed the woman onto a train, police said.

He positioned himself behind her, pulled down his sweatpants, exposed himself and rubbed against her, police said. When she moved away, he followed her and repeated the act.

The woman got off at 23rd Street, and continued to follow her, according to the NYPD, until he was arrested.

McKelvin was charged with felony sexual abuse.

He is a registered sex offender who in 2010 raped an 11-year-old girl.
