MALVERNE, N.Y. (WABC) -- An LIRR train struck a shopping cart on the tracks east of the Malverne station, causing third-rail damage and a service suspension.
Long Island Rail Road service was restored after it was suspended for a short period on the West Hempstead branch, a small branch with five stops.
Service had been suspended in both directions between West Hempstead and Valley Stream.
