NEW YORK (WABC) -- LIRR service has been restored in both directions between Jamaica and Penn Station, and between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, after an earlier suspension due to fire department activity in Jamaica.
A fire extinguishing system went off in the Air Train terminal at Jamaica Station. Four people are being treated.
A fire alarm went off in an office at Jamaica Station that handles LIRR train operations, possibly triggering the fire suppression system.
LIRR service was temporarily suspended when the MTA employees evacuated the office.
MTA is now restoring LIRR service by transferring the operations to other locations. Only limited service will be available until MTA workers get back in their operations room.
NYC Transit continues to cross-honoring LIRR fares in both directions via the E train at 34th St/Penn Station, Roosevelt Ave, 71st Ave and Sutphin Blvd., and in both directions via the 2/3 subway lines at Atlantic Ave and 34th St.
The Port Washington Branch is not affected.
