NEW YORK (WABC) -- A construction worker was trapped and killed after concrete fell from a building under construction in Midtown Tuesday afternoon.

The victim is a 27-year-old man from Jersey City.

Emergency personnel responded around 1:30 p.m. at 326 W. 37th St.

It appears that a wall foundation fell from an adjoining building onto the site where a hotel is under construction.

The worker was trapped under an 8,000 pound slab of concrete that fell on top of him from 10 feet.

Rescuers rushed to try and save him, but the construction worker sustained body trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the New York City Fire Department.

An adjacent office building with about 150 people inside was evacuated due to concerns about its structural integrity.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the city Department of Buildings are investigating.
