NJ Transit resuming service, but delays of up to 1 hour continue due to downed wires

NEW YORK -- New Jersey Transit trains are moving again following problems caused by downed overhead wires, but there are still delays of up to 60 minutes in and out of New York City.

Amtrak reports the wires came down in their Sunnyside, Queens rail yard, impacting train traffic in and out of Penn Station.

Amtrak says there will be some residual delays through the evening rush hour and customers are being advised to allow extra time.

Engineers are on the scene and working to complete the repairs, officials say.

The downed wires also caused problems on the LIRR due to congestion in the East River tunnels but riders are being told to expect a normal rush hour.
