BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WABC) -- Honesty was obviously the best policy for a police officer and his girlfriend in Connecticut.

Bridgeport Police Officer Kevin Cronin and his girlfriend returned a lost wallet Tuesday with the $6,300 cash inside.

A woman lost it in the parking lot of a Whole Foods store on Sunday in Fairfield.

Officer Cronin's girlfriend found it, and Cronin turned it into police.

"It's just the right thing to do. When you find something that doesn't belong to you, you have a right to try and return it. If there's ID there, you have to make a reasonable effort to return it," Officer Cronin said.

Fairfield Police were able to track the owner down through her ID in the wallet.
