SUNNYSIDE, Staten Island (WABC) -- A vehicle overturned after a tree fell across Victory Boulevard on Staten Island overnight.

The tree fell just after 2 a.m., snagging power lines that eventually pulled three utility poles onto the roadway.

The downed lines sparked a transformer fire, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

Later, the driver of a white sedan swerved to avoid the downed wires, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The driver was treated for a non life threatening injury at Richmond University Medical Center.

The downed power lines briefly caused a localized power outage of about 500 customers, but most were quickly restored.

Victory Boulevard is expected to be closed through the area.
