NJ Transit power issues resolved; expect delays in/out of NY Penn Station through evening

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Normal operations have resumed for New Jersey Transit trains after a power problem caused major delays in and out of New York Thursday afternoon.

According to NJ Transit officials, there was an issue with Amtrak's overhead power system in the Hudson River Tunnel. Trains had to alternate through the tunnel.

Amtrak engineering forces are working to determine the root cause of the issue but have made temporary repairs. Residual delays can be expected through the evening rush hour as service catches up.

The delays were 90 minutes or more as of 3:15 p.m, but had eased to 45 minutes by 5 p.m. and 15-30 minutes in the evening.

As a result of the delay, cross-honoring is in effect with PATH out of Newark Penn Station, 33rd Street and Hoboken Terminal, and with the NJT and private carrier bus service.

This summer has been plagued by delays for trains in the tunnel because of Amtrak power problems.
