Pedestrian walking across North Patchogue street fatally struck by car

NORTH PATCHOGUE (WABC) -- Police in Suffolk County are investigating a car crash that killed a pedestrian in North Patchogue early Sunday morning.

According to police, Manuel Tecum, 37, of North Patchogue was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am northbound on Medford Avenue when his vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking eastbound across Medford Avenue just behind two other people at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The pedestrian, Florencio Cardanas, 58, of Patchogue was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he died from his injuries.

Tecum was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection and the investigation is continuing.
