Retired NYPD officer drowns while saving others in Puerto Rico

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A retired NYPD officer from Orange County has drowned while on vacation in Puerto Rico.



His last moments were spent trying to rescue others.



After a 48-hour search, 44-year-old Jose Orlando Rosario's lifeless body was pulled from the water Tuesday.



He was taken under by a riptide on Saturday after jumping in to help his 12-year-old son and two of his son's friends.



They all survived.
